At the regular meeting of the Porter Township Board of Trustees held on Monday, March 16, 2020, the Trustees enacted several measures to protect the welfare of all Porter Township residents in response to the current COVID-19 pandemic.  The two response actions described below were formulated through consultation with the Office of the Scioto County Prosecutor, the declaration of a state emergency by Governor Mike DeWine, and national CDC guidelines.

First, all reservations previously made for the Porter Township Community Center and Community Park shelters are cancelled through April 30, 2020, with no additional reservations to be made during this time period.  The Trustees will reassess the status of these reservations beyond April 30, 2020 as the declaration of emergency is reconsidered by the Governor of Ohio.

Second, the Trustees authorized the establishment of a township “Facebook Page” for communication usage by the Porter Township Board of Trustees during the period of the COVID-19 declared emergency.  Also, the Trustees will allow public participation at all future Board of Trustees’ meetings only by live-streaming through the internet via Facebook Live until the COVID-19 declared emergency is terminated or upon receipt of additional guidance.   These measures were necessary to limit the number of individuals who would gather in any public space during the COVID-19 pandemic emergency.  Additional measures may be necessary in the future to adhere to appropriate social distancing requirements.

The Porter Township Trustees would like to encourage all citizens to take necessary precautions, as guided by the CDC and the Ohio Department of Health, to keep themselves and their families safe during this emergency period.  Any questions regarding this press release should be directed to the Trustees at 740-574-4245 or through the township’s website at www.portertwp.com
